DANCEWEAR & SHOE REQUIREMENTS
All students must wear appropriate dance shoes to class each week. We would like all of our students to have the same style and color shoe depending on which class they are taking. ABSOLUTELY NO STREET SHOES WORN FOR ANY CLASS. Listed below are the requirements for each class:
Either pink leather or pink canvas, silk/satin slippers are not to be worn for any class. Ballet shoes should NOT be bought in black or white unless they are for a male student.
Students may wear either a slip on or half sole lyrical sandal. Do not purchase black jazz shoes, the rubber on the heel and soles are painted black and leave black marks on the studio floor that will not come off.
Students may wear any type of lyrical sandal. There are a variety of styles available and is really a personal preference. Jazz shoes and ballet shoes are also acceptable for this class.
Black tap shoes with either a buckle or a strap are for students 3 - 5th grade. We are trying to get away from the shoes with ribbon for the younger students so that they do not need to be tied as often during class. If you have this style that is fine but if you are buying new please buy shoes that have a strap. Older students should discuss what style shoe to order with Miss Diana.
Students taking hip hop should wear a black dance sneaker (these do not scuff like the black jazz shoe). The sneakers are made special for dance and should never be worn outside, these are not a regular athletic sneaker. Dance sneakers are for hip hop classes only.
The color and style of dancewear is optional. All students taking ballet are required to wear leotards and tights to class each week. You may wear a skirt or shorts over your leotard if you like. Dancewear Solutions is a great website to order inexpensive tights, leotards and shoes from. All other classes wear form fitting tops and leggings, shorts or yoga pants. We prefer younger dancers to wear leotards and tights for tap, ballet and jazz. This allows the teacher to see how the body is moving while dancing. ABSOLUTELY NO JEANS are to be worn in class.
Hair is required to be pulled back and out of your face. Hair ties are available in the studio and office if you forgot yours.
